Interactive theatre system
This is
the system we designed for a 300 seats theatre in Hong Kong. Audience can press
the button on his seat and the system can collect, record, analyse all audience
input and direct the show sequence. The central part of the system includes a
PC, a microprocessor based control unit and power supply placed in control
room, and 174 interactive units mounted on each seat in the theatre. The
interactive unit provides three buttons for user to enter his input and some
LEDs for indication.
We
designed the whole system, developed all the electronic circuits required,
performed the coding of software and firmware, designed the protocol required
and carried out the commissioning of the system. The system can communicate
with main show control system to influence the flow of show in real time. The
system can also be used to hold quiz and voting activities.
A special
feature has been added to the system. It can detect and report fault at the
interactive unit. This feature is extended to check the status of headphone
installed at the seat used for simultaneous second language. This special
feature greatly shortens time to repair of parts installed on the seat and
enhances the quality of service of the theatre.
